What it is

A professional solution applied to the skin for a controlled period to encourage the surface to renew. Strength is chosen to suit your skin rather than applied to a fixed formula — a first peel is deliberately conservative.

How it works

After cleansing and preparation, the peel is applied in layers and timed closely. It is then neutralised or removed and the skin is calmed and protected. Your practitioner watches the skin throughout rather than working to a clock alone.

Good fit for

  • Uneven-looking tone or surface pigmentation
  • Rough or congested texture
  • Skin that looks tired and does not respond to home care alone

Suitability is assessed individually at consultation. Some treatments are not appropriate for everyone.

Your treatment journey

  1. Consultation covering your skin history, medication and sun exposure.
  2. Preparation, sometimes including a home routine for a week or two beforehand.
  3. The peel applied in timed layers and closely watched.
  4. Neutralising, calming and detailed aftercare instructions.

Results and what to expect

Skin often looks brighter within a week of a peel settling. Pigmentation and texture goals usually need a course, and progress varies considerably between individuals.

Safety and common effects

Most people notice some of the following. They are temporary and expected rather than a problem:

  • Redness and a tight feeling for one to three days
  • Visible flaking or peeling, usually days two to five
  • Temporary sensitivity to products and sunlight

Before you book. Suitability is assessed individually at consultation. Some treatments are not appropriate for everyone. Tell your practitioner about any medication, skin condition, allergy or recent treatment at consultation rather than on the day.

Aftercare

Expect some flaking. Do not pick or exfoliate. Strict daily sun protection for at least two weeks, and no heat treatments or swimming for a few days.

Common questions

How much will I actually peel?

This varies with the strength used and your own skin. Some people flake lightly around the mouth and nose only; others peel more visibly. Your practitioner will tell you what to expect from the specific peel chosen.

Can I have a peel before a wedding or event?

Yes, but allow at least two weeks so any flaking has fully finished.

Will it remove my pigmentation?

Peels are designed to help pigmentation look less noticeable over a course. They are not a removal treatment, and results vary. Sun protection makes a substantial difference to what you keep.

Is it safe on darker skin tones?

Peel choice and strength change with skin tone and history. This is assessed individually, and a patch test may be recommended.

Can I use my retinol afterwards?

Not immediately. Your practitioner will tell you when to reintroduce actives, usually after about a week.

How many will I need?

A course of four to six, spaced two to four weeks apart, is common for texture and tone goals.
