What it is
A precise, surface-level exfoliation using a sterile blade held at an angle against the skin. It removes fine vellus hair and the dull outer layer of dead cells, which is why make-up tends to sit more smoothly afterwards.
How it works
The skin is cleansed and dried, then worked over in small, controlled sections. Nothing penetrates the skin — this is a surface treatment, which is why there is essentially no downtime.
Good fit for
- Skin that looks dull or feels rough to the touch
- Anyone who finds make-up catching on fine facial hair
- Preparation before an event, allowing a day or two
Suitability is assessed individually at consultation. Some treatments are not appropriate for everyone.
Your treatment journey
- Cleansing and a check for anything active on the skin.
- Sectioned exfoliation across the face.
- A soothing mask or serum.
- Moisturiser and sun protection.
Results and what to expect
Skin usually looks brighter and feels noticeably smoother immediately. The effect softens over three to four weeks as the surface renews.
Safety and common effects
Most people notice some of the following. They are temporary and expected rather than a problem:
- Mild redness for an hour or two
- Skin feeling temporarily more sensitive to products
Before you book. Suitability is assessed individually at consultation. Some treatments are not appropriate for everyone. Tell your practitioner about any medication, skin condition, allergy or recent treatment at consultation rather than on the day.

Common questions
Will the hair grow back thicker?
No. Vellus hair regrows at the same texture and colour it was before. It can feel different for a day or two simply because the ends are blunt.
How soon before an event should I book?
Two to three days beforehand is comfortable, which leaves room for any mild redness to settle.
Can it be combined with anything?
It pairs well with a peel or a carbon laser facial. Your practitioner will advise on the order and spacing.
Is it painful?
It is not. Most people describe it as a light scraping sensation.
How often can I have it?
Roughly every four weeks, which follows the skin’s own renewal cycle.
